USC BATTLES UGA FOR
THE SEC EAST LEAD
UGA head coach Mark Richt
faces a must win game this weekend at the Georgia Bulldogs await a
critical SEC East battle against the Gamecocks. Georgia will also be
without starting linebacker Alec
Ogletree due to an injury suffered during the lost against Boise State
last Saturday.
Many predict that the winner of the UGA-USC battle will win
the SEC East. UGA head coach will be in the hot seat if the Dawgs go 0-2
to start the season so the Gamecocks will be facing a hungry Georgia
team this Saturday in Athens.
THE GOOD
Stephen Garcia won back the
starting QB job after Conner Shaw and the Gamecocks struggled to say the
least in the first quarter. South Carolina fumbled three times and
trailed 17-0 before Garcia entered the game.
Garcia had a 32-yard touchdown run in his first series and when Lattimore
finished the Gamecocks next drive with a 4-yard scoring run, South
Carolina fans at Bank of America Stadium began chanting Garcia's name in
celebration.
THE BAD
Starting Gamecocks QB Conner Shaw was 3 of 9 passing
for a meager 21 yards. He also fumbled the ball away in the first
quarter. Most of all, the Gamecocks offense sputtered with Shaw at QB.
USC running back even fumbled in his first game of the year, a feat he
did not do until the bowl game in 2010.
THE UGLY
Second-team ALL-SEC corner Stephon Gilmore looked
anything but stellar getting abused by Pirates receiver Lance Lewis
resulting in two East Carolina touchdowns.
"If you go back and look at it, there were two balls that I thought
Stephon played terribly. It was sloppy" defensive head coach Ellis
Johnson said
