SHALL WE SAY
IT?
THE ROAD TO THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP BEGINS
Why not say it? The
baseball team won the national championship again this year. That's
back-to-back national championships unheard of before last year for
Gamecock fans. Well the bar has been raised for the football team this
year after winning the SEC East last year.
The road to the National Championship begins this Saturday in Charlotte,
North Carolina against the upset-minded Pirates of East Carolina. ECU
has won five of the last seven matchups between the two teams including
a 21-3 victory in Columbia in September of 1999, the last meeting
between ECU and South Carolina.
Coach Spurrier hinted that Connor Shaw had out-performed Garcia in the
preseason scrimmages and may start this Saturday.
"We have an idea but they're still battling for it," Spurrier
said Wednesday during the SEC coaches' teleconference. "We've had
competition for the starting quarterback job and we'll have it right up
through Thursday or so. Like I said, Connor Shaw has performed a little
bit better than Stephen in all the scrimmages. Don't be surprised if
it's Connor Shaw."
