GAMECOCKS SEC
CHAMPIONSHIP RUN BEGINS NOW
The road to compete for the SEC Championship
begins this Friday as the Gamecocks (7-5) and the Houston Cougars (10-3), champions of Conference
USA, face-off.
The momentum from a win over Clemson and a
bowl win over Houston would be huge going into spring practice. The Gamecocks
2007 recruiting class is also on pace to finish in the top-10 for the first
time in years, which is a must as SEC Championship contenders Florida,
Georgia, and Tennessee are expected to finish well in the top-10.
The Gamecocks defense will return almost all
starters from this year's team and a bowl win against a prolific Houston
offense will give the big "D" a lot of confidence going into next
season. The offense will need to replace some key offensive line starters but
should return all players in skilled positions.
Best of all, South Carolina should return all
coaches for next season, including head coach Steve Spurrier, who turned down
jobs at Miami and Alabama. All signs indicate a positive 2007 season but the
Gamecocks must prove it on the field which will need to begin with a victory
over the Cougars in Memphis.
